Stretch your body.

I spend a lot of time sitting and a lot of time driving. The older I get, the more I realize how important it is to stretch. Have you ever seen a cat wake from a nap? The first thing it does is stretch. Children instinctually do this as well. We as adults often skip this.

Stretching will increase your circulation and reduce muscle soreness, increase your flexibility, increase your range of motion and balance, reduce stress, and help with lower back pain.

Stretch your mind.

Do you watch a lot of TV? Do you do a lot of repetitive behaviors? Learning a new skill or just reading something different can create new neurological pathways in your brain. It will also tap into your brain’s reward system as our brains are wired to reward us when we expand them. This will keep your brain active and growing, possibly make you a more interesting person, and lower your stress.

Stretch your relationships.

Sometimes we get into so much of a routine, we just walk through our lives in a trance. Take some time today to really focus on who you are talking to. Allow yourself to truly connect to them. Listen to them. Appreciate them. Deepen your connection with them.

If I can do it, you can do it.

“Be free all worthy spirits, and stretch yourselves, for greatness and for height.” – George Chapman
